Maria attained her Master of Osteopathy degree from the London School of Osteopathy. The five year course is comprised of in-depth study of manual osteopathic techniques, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, nutrition, psychology and biomechanics. Maria is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (Reg.No. 8095) and is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy. She is also qualified in medical acupuncture, nutritional therapy and sports massage.
Osteopathy treats the whole person and Maria believes in empowering and supporting patients to help take control of their own health and encourage the natural healing abilities of their body. Maria enjoys working with people and listens to her patients and takes a holistic approach to their treatment plan. She reviews all aspects of a person’s life, not just the musculoskeletal issue a person may be presenting with. Factors such as lifestyle, fitness levels, past injuries and family history are all taken into consideration. Advice on nutrition, supplements, stress management and exercise are also given. Maria will create an exercise plan to help support recovery or manage chronic musculoskeletal issues. This can be in the form of a printed sheet or online with videos to ensure the exercises are being carried out correctly and safely.
A comprehensive medical case history is always taken before any examination or treatment takes place. This is to obtain a thorough understanding of the patient and help establish the root cause of their symptoms and whether it is safe to proceed or to referral to their GP. Maria can also refer private patients to the Global Clinic in Norwich if x-rays, MRIs etc are deemed to be necessary. Treatments are tailored to the patient and the techniques/treatments carried out will vary from person to person to ensure they are appropriate and safe. Maria will explain what techniques are needed and why; consent is always gained beforehand. Maria uses combination of various treatments including osteopathic musculoskeletal techniques such as soft tissue manipulation (muscles/tendons/ligaments) joint manipulation and medical acupuncture. Treatments should not be painful, however, it is common to feel some mild discomfort after a treatment on the areas which have been worked on.
