Yoga can help improve your functional mobility, range of movement, balance, co-ordination, strength and flexibility. As well as improved breath function, a better sense of wellbeing, improved sleep and better management of stress and anxiety.
Hatha Yoga has an emphasis on the correct use of breath during the practice. Classes usually start with focusing on the breath, becoming aware of being in the space you are occupying and slowly transitioning into a gentle warm up. Followed by a series of held postures designed to build balance, strength, mobility and flexibility. Postures are usually held for about 5 breaths/30 seconds, classes end with at least 5-10 minutes of relaxation to consolidate the work of the class.
Whilst the classes are not designed specifically with beginners in mind, variations and adaptations are offered to make classes as accessible as possible to everyone. A basic level of fitness is an advantage.
